An Afternoon with Alice Howe & Freebo

Alice Howe and Freebo present a unique study in contrasts, bringing together a venerable music icon and a talented newcomer. Each a compelling performer in their own right, they both lead and support each other in their well-crafted songs with flawless harmonies and tasteful instrumentation.

A rising voice in modern folk, singer and songwriter Alice Howe offers a modern love letter to 60s and 70s folk and timeless blues. Her debut full-length album, Visions, pays homage without succumbing to imitation, offering an intimate snapshot of a young artist discovering her own power. Produced by Freebo with a stellar cast of musicians in Bakersfield, California, Visions features new originals alongside Alice’s interpretations of iconic songs from her family’s vast record collection.

From world-renowned bassist (Bonnie Raitt 10 years, CSN, John Mayall, Maria Muldaur, Ringo Starr, Neil Young, Dr. John, Loudon Wainwright) to award-winning singer/songwriter, Freebo’s music touches your heart with songs of life, love, dogs, and the human condition. He is well regarded for his high level of musicality coupled with his thoughtful and powerful use of words in song lyrics as well as in prose and narrative. He has also appeared on the classic TV shows Saturday Night Live, Midnight Special, The Tonight Show, and in concert with the legendary Spinal Tap.

Voices In The Heights

First Unitarian Congregational Society, 119-121 Pierrepont Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201

Freebo, Kirsten Maxwell, and Alice Howe are three award-winning singer-songwriters joined together out of their shared love of harmony.

Freebo (Los Angeles, CA) is best known as a world-renowned bassist (Bonnie Raitt 10 years, CSN, Ringo Starr, Maria Muldaur, Dr. John, and many others). Rising star Kirsten Maxwell (Nashville, TN) has opened for such notable artists as Melissa Etheridge, Tanya Tucker, and Judy Collins, who praised Maxwell’s talent, calling her voice “beautiful” and “unusual”. With her soulful, impeccably tuned voice, 2019 New Folk Finalist Alice Howe (Los Angeles, CA), has just released her much-anticipated debut album, Visions, produced by Freebo. American Blues Scene writes about Alice, “Sometimes we’re lucky enough to catch an up-and-coming artist as they fly into our radar. This is one of those times.” FREEBO, MAXWELL, & HOWE promise a memorable evening of music bringing together a folk-rock-blues legend and two young artists becoming well-known in the national folk scene.

"When these three get together, prepare yourself for an extraordinary evening of song and smiles, and maybe a tear or two. Powerful songwriting combined with mesmerizing vocals, outstanding musicianship and a palpable camaraderie make for an experience unsurpassed on the contemporary acoustic scene!” - Ron Olesko, Folk Music Notebook, WFDU-FM
