“A Case Of You” Official Video Premieres via Americana UK

My love affair with Joni Mitchell’s beautiful song, “A Case Of You” began when I was a young girl sitting beside the record player, captivated by Joni’s iconic album Blue. Later, as a teenager at summer camp in Vermont, a counselor taught me to play the song on my old Seagull guitar. I will never forget sitting with her on that sunny day, playing the unfamiliar chords over and over until I had it.

Fifty years after that album’s release, I feel as though I’ve finally made this song my own, and am so proud to share my version. The official video, which premieres today via Americana UK, takes you into the studio in Los Angeles where I recorded the song with bassist/producer Freebo and drummer MB Gordy.

I’m grateful to Americana UK for their kind reception of the song and video. Andrew Frolish writes, “Simply, this is a beautiful version of a beautiful song. It’s a brave thing to cover such an outstanding piece of work as Joni Mitchell’s ‘A Case of You’. However, Alice Howe pulls it off in some style, thanks to her excellent vocal and the assistance MB Gordy on drums and long-time collaborator Freebo (Bonnie Raitt) on the fretless bass and electric baritone guitar. That melodic bass, in particular, oozes class and makes this interpretation distinctive and memorable. Howe is suitably heartfelt, absorbed in her performance of the song.”
